Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab) is a not-for-profit civic tech company that works at the intersection of emerging cutting-edge technological tools and their applications by equipping young professionals to solve emerging challenges in our community. YI-Lab’s mission statement is, ‘to engage young people to bridge science to people and policy through innovation’. YI-Lab harnesses indigenous knowledge, citizen science approach, develops low-cost technological solutions, promotes open data, promotes entrepreneurship, and conducts evidence-based advocacy campaigns. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field;
- 4–6 years of professional experience in Django + Django REST Framework and React.js;
- Strong command of both backend and frontend development;
- Experience with PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Redis, and Celery;
- Skilled in Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Linux server operations;
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, DigitalOcean, etc.) and services (EC2, S3, RDS);
- Experience with Nginx, Bash, SSL setup (Certbot), and performance tuning;
- GitLab/GitHub workflows and automated deployments;
- Excellent troubleshooting, architectural design, and documentation skills;
- Strong grasp of GIS tools, API integrations, and user-centered design.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead fullstack project lifecycle from design to deployment.
- Architect and implement end-to-end applications using Django + React.
- Build scalable APIs and dynamic front-end interfaces.
- Oversee DevOps pipelines, containerization, and server management.
- Collaborate across teams (GIS, data, frontend, policy) for co-creation.
- Maintain secure, optimized, and highly available applications.
- Mentor junior engineers and champion technical excellence.
- Align technical decisions with YI-Lab’s mission and civic impact goals.
